Electrophysical therapies are an important addition to hands on therapies.  Hands on, manual therapies are the bedrock of good physiotherapy, but sometimes we need to be able to penetrate deeper than our hands allow, and often, we want to aid and suport the process of tissue healing and repair.  Electrotherapies and physiotherapy equipment, used in conjunction with good manual techniques allow us to offer the most complete treatments to aid your horses performance, rehabilitation and recovery.

For up to date, independant information on various electro-physical therapies, check out Tim Watson's Electrotherapy on the Web page.  This is a free, valuable, knowlegable, evidence based resource produced by a leading expert and researcher in the field of physiotherapy.

Longwave and Shortwave Ultrasound

Utrasound is particularly useful for the management of pain, inflamation and to aid tissue healing, in particular for tendon and ligament issues.  It can also be useful in reducing swellings, odeama and heamatoma, scar tissue and fibrosis.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT)

PEMFT is useful in the management of pain, acute and

chromic inflamatory issues and general tissue and fracture repair.

Phototherapy (red, blue, infrared) and LASER Therapy (class 3b)

Phototherapy and LASER are particularly useful in wound healing and the prevention of Proud Flesh.

Phototherapy can also be used to aid relaxation and endorphin release as part of

maintenance and performance treatments

LASER can also be used in the process of Acupressure, a non-invasive alternative to acupuncture.

Electrovet (similar to H-Wave)

Offering a specific variety of muscle stimulation or pain relieving TENS type treatment.

Excellent for rehabilitation and rebuilding muscle strength and function.

Muscle Stimulation

Muscle stimulation is excellent for targeting very specifc areas where improved muscle

function is required.  Muscle stimulation can also be used to reduce atrophy.

TENS

TENS is used to help manage pain perception and can be useful in rehabilitation

Microcurrent

Microcurrent has been shown to be useful in pain managment, tissue and wound healing and fracture repair.

Pulsed Shortwave Therapy

Pulsed shortwave devices are particularly useful in managing pain, aiding tissue repair and reducing inflamation.  These have been used successfully in managing long-term, ongoing conditions including sacroilliac pain and nerve damage.
