Veterinary Surgeons Act

It is illegal for any person to treat an animal unless they are a veterinary surgeon or a “paraprofessional” covered by the Veterinary Surgeons (Exemptions) Order 2015.  Wendy Vaughan is classed as a paraprofessional by the Veterinary Surgery (Exemptions) Order 1962.

The latest guidance  from the RCVS stresses that musculoskeletal paraprofessionals are part of the vet-led team, and that any animal, including healthy ones, should be registered with a veterinary surgeon.  Maintenance treatment may take place without specific veterinary referral, however, all animals should be referred to a vet at the first sign of any concerns that may suggest underlying health issues.

Wendy will therefore ask for confirmation that you are registered with a vet and will ask you to notify your vet that you have booked an appointment.  If you are seeking treatment for anything other than maintenance, e.g. for a specific issue or concern, Wendy will require a referral from your vet.  Wendy reserves the right to refer any case back to your vet if there are concerns about underlying health issues.

Chiropractors Act 1994

Wendy Vaughan is a graduate of The Oxford College of Equine Physical Therapy and practices McTimoney-Corley Animal Manipulation, sometimes referred to as "spinal therapy". or "animal/equine chiropractic"

Whilst Wendy practices some therapies with people, she is not a human Chiropractor and is not registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).  Only members of the GCC can call themselves Chiropractors.  Animal practitioners are not able to join/be governed by the GCC as it is only concerned with human chiropractic treatment.

The use of the terms McTimoney-Corley, Spinal Therapy, Manipulation, or Animal/Equine Chiropractic to describe the animal treatment offered DOES NOT imply that Wendy Vaughan is a Chiropractor and Wendy does not offer any form of manipulative therapy to people.
